Walsh Mander Ltd
Client
Walsh Mander Ltd. This Rugby based division of the Walsh
International Group is a mailing house that sends out bulk
mailings for many companies, including The Royal Bank of
Scotland.
Problem
The Royal Bank of Scotland wanted to improve the promotional
literature displayed at its 850 U.K. branches. The logistical
problem of ensuring that correctly sized posters were sent
to the relevant branches every month meant that a computer
had to be used, but Walsh Mander's previous software supplier
was expensive, unreliable, and unable to write a program
to the required time scale.
Solution
Tailor Made Software wrote a totally new ordering
system to meet the requirements given. In fact due to an
oversight in the specification the program didn't initially
solve all Walsh Mander's needs, but Tailor Made Software
corrected the problem without further cost to the supplier.
The final program has the following key features:
The
program is very easy to use, even for untrained staff.
The
program is flexible and intelligent, allowing individual
branches to order poster sets by theme, or for posters to
be selected by head office.
When sending out posters the computer automatically sends
out the correct number of posters of the appropriate size,
without the branch having to state this, saving time and
reducing wastage.
The
relative popularity of posters is analysed, and can be compared
with the branch's success in selling the bank's services.
It
works with their existing software, on their existing IBM
PS/2 computer.
The
program was written and installed within five working weeks
from go-ahead.
Result
The Birmingham depot is now the best organised and
most efficient in the company. Wiggins Teape Paper head
office has decided that similar systems should be installed
in their other distribution depots.
