Midland Counties Rabbit Ltd. This Evesham-based, family owned business purchases livestock for slaughter, processing, and distribution to the national supermarket chains.

Problem
Their previous (very early and basic) computer system had broken down, and could not be repaired. Their purchasing and supplier payment system had been devised by them to encourage their suppliers to provide best quality produce, however it was too time consuming to calculate the figures and maintain the purchase ledger by hand. Because their purchase ledger requirements were unusual none of the regular off-the-shelf packages could fulfil their requirements.

Solution
Tailor Made Software wrote a specialised purchase ledger incorporating the following key features:

  The program allows MCR Ltd to carry on using (and improve and develop further), their bonus based payment system.

 The improved payment system saves money, as the computer downgrades poor stock, and by paying extra for animals over target weights, the bonus encourages the most profitable suppliers.

 The software produces supplier statistics which enables them to weed out unreliable suppliers, and concentrate on the good ones.

  It lets them review their supplier's previous transactions, saving time and helping with queries to the accounts.

  The program maintains the suppliers' balance owing, and produces the payment cheques - all on their small Amstrad PC!

Result
MCR are delighted with their new program which is better, and more reliable than their previous software. Due to the improved quality of the meat they supply their sales increased so much that they commissioned Tailor Made Software to write a program to forecast livestock supply (based on the animals breeding cycle) to help them meet their higher sales targets, and also a specialised Sales Ledger, and a link up to their bank's Branch Originated BACS payment facility, to reduce their bank charges.
